Drug Names(s): caspofungin acetate, Kansaidasu (Japan), Caspofungin MSD
Description: Caspofungin is an antifungal drug, the first of a new class termed the echinocandins. It shows activity against infections with Aspergillus and Candida, and works by inhibiting the synthesis of ß(1,3)-D-Glucan, an essential component of the fungal cell wall. ß(1,3)-D-Glucan is essential to fungal cell wall integrity and thus, Caspofungin compromises the integrity of the fungal cell wall leading to a permeable cell wall and cell lysis.Caspofungin does not affect mammalian cell walls.
