Description: TriStaph is a recombinant conjugate vaccine directed against the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Like StaphVax, it contains the two main capsular types, 5 and 8, found in the outer coating of more than 80% of S. aureus strains. To enhance the efficacy of this vaccine, a surface polysaccharide, 336, is added. Type 336 is found on a serotype of S. aureus, that accounts for approximately 10-12 percent of all clinically significant S. aureus infections.

Deal Structure: Biota and Nabi
In September 2007, Nabi Biopharmaceuticals announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement with Biotest AG to sell the Nabi Biologics strategic business unit (SBU) to Biotest Pharmaceuticals Corporation for $185 million. Nabi will retain its Pharmaceuticals strategic business unit assets, including NicVAX and its investigational StaphVAX programs.

As part of the Purchase Agreement, Nabi will grant Biotest Pharmaceuticals a right of first negotiation and a right of first refusal to obtain rights to utilize StaphVAX and to license the StaphVAX intellectual property that are necessary to enable Biotest Pharmaceuticals to use StaphVAX solely for purposes relating to Altastaph.

In December 2007, Biotest completed its acquisition of Nabi's Biologics strategic business unit.
