Drug Names(s): olsalazine sodium, mesalazine, mesalamine, 5-ASA
Description: Dipentum consists of olsalazine sodium, which like sulfasalazine, is converted to 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) in the colon. It is thought that 5-ASA is the therapeutically active component of the drug. Although the exact mechanism of action of 5-ASA is unknown, it appears to inhibit the prostaglandin inflammatory cascades.
