Description: RG1068 is a synthetic version of the neuroactive peptide human secretin. Secretin is a peptide hormone produced in the S cells of the duodenum in the Crypts of Lieberkuhn. Its overall effect is to regulate the pH of the duodenal contents via the control of gastric acid secretion and buffering with bicarbonate.
As of 2006, RG1068 is being evaluated as an agent to improve the detection of structural abnormalities of the pancreatic ducts during MRI imaging of the pancreas.
